Kiel Week

Kiel is the capital of the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern Federal State of Germany. It is always good for visits, but the best date is at the end of June, when it’s time for:
Kieler Woche-visit the biggest summer festival in the north of Europe, which takes place from 21 to 29 June, 2008.
Kieler Woche is a quite unique event: each year, in the last week of June, more than three million people from about 70 countries visit the biggest summer festival in northern Europe, when Kiel brings out its best.
Very special is the Kieler Woche opening ceremony which is hold in the Town Hall Square on Saturday 21. Afterwards the whole city centre becomes one giant party zone and gives an impression of what will follow the next days. With lots of music, international specialities and mini cabaret, there’s something for everyone.
International Specialities, music and cabaret performances will be offered at the market-place in front of the Town Hall.

Walk acts, comedians, clowns, magicians, acrobats and pantomimes - they will all be on the streets to entertain the visitors of Kieler Woche. As well,the city’s museums and galleries will also have special exhibitions, while its classical performance venues will present an exclusive programme of ballet, plays and operas. Another highlight will be the classical open-air concert with the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Kieler Woche is very famous for its sailing regatta. And for the apparently endless forest of yacht masts on the banks of the firth, more than hundred windjammers and traditional sailing boats and the fascination of tall ships in the windjammer parade, with more than 100 ships participating in.
